Coming Soon... the 13th season of Women's Running School!
Greensboro Running Club, in cooperation with Cone Health, sponsors a running school for women from July to October. This 10-week training program has proved a great success! During the program, walkers and novice runners are coached toward the goal of running the Women’s Only 5K. The Women's Only 5k is held in October; this year's date is October 6, 2018.
The training program focuses on providing participants with the educational information and practical experience they need to complete the race safely and effectively. Participants receive a training manual, a weekly motivational e-mail, and meet as a group once a week to train with coaches of the GRC. Educational clinics on running-related topics, such as choosing the correct shoes, stretching and injury prevention, and nutrition round out this program.

Women's Running School FAQ:
Q: What days does the school meet?
A: Thursdays at 6pm the group will meet. You are encouraged to meet with your fellow team members and run together on Tuesdays and on the weekend.
Q: Where does the school meet?
A: We change locations throughout the training to provide a variety of running routes. We will meet at the Natural Science Center /Country Park, the Greenway (behind the former Payless Shoes off Lawndale), the Greensboro Arboretum and Grimsley High School.
Q: What are the age requirements?
A: All ages are welcome! We have had women from ages 13 – 74 in the past! Any minors who participate MUST be accompanied by their mother at all times, at all running school practices and events. (Your daughter will need to run with you, in your group.) Unaccompanied minors will not be allowed to participate.
Q: Do I have to be able to run a mile before the class starts?
A: No. We will do an assessment before the training classes begin and you will be asked to complete a mile. You will note at what time you first walk. This will help us place you in a group with the appropriate pace. We do encourage you to start walking now if you haven’t been exercising at all. AND WALKERS ARE WELCOME!
Q: What if I have to miss a training session?
A: That is okay. You can run on your own to make up for the missed session. Please just notify your coach if you know ahead of time that you will miss a session.
Q: Do we only run one time per week?
A: We only run as a group one time – on Thursdays. You are encouraged to run two additional days. We recommend you talk to your other team members and set up dates/times to run together outside of the training sessions.
Q: What if I’m put into a group that is too slow/too fast for me?
A: You will be able to adjust groups if you are not comfortable with the pace of your assigned group.
Q: Do I need to wear running clothes to the Information Session?
A: No, this is a time to hand out information and answer questions. You will need to wear running clothes to your assessment and to training sessions.
Q: Do I need any special equipment?
A: No. You will need a good pair of running shoes and comfortable clothing. We encourage you to visit Fleet Feet or Omega Sports and make sure you are fitted for the proper type of running shoe for your gait. Also, if you have a digital watch that would be helpful for your interval training, but this is not required.
Q: Can I participate if I cannot make it to the assessment run?
Q: Is the cost of the Women’s Only 5k Run/Walk included in the training?
A: No, you will need to register for that separately. You can find more information at www.womensonlyrun.com
Q: When/Where are the assessment Runs
A: The assessment is a 1 mile run/walk. You are not expected to be able to run the full mile, this will just help us group you with others of your similar ability. Assessments will be held at the Greensboro Day School Track (off Lawndale Drive).
